Public spaces are truly public in London?
During the last month, the CITIES session of The Guardian Online published a series of articles about the city we want in 2015.
One of the last post regards the recent history of public space in London and a Manifesto for Public Space, entitled “London’s Great Outdoors” (opens in new window) promoted by Mayor Boris Johnson.
In 2009, Boris Johnson railed against the ‘corporatisation’ of public space in London. Now, as private estates mushroom from Malaysia Square to Elephant Park, he seems to have forgotten all about it.
